Sparra's Nest is a source of Quality Lilium seed for the first time grower as well as the experienced. The goal is to offer fresh, accurately named and described seed. All the seed is grown here at Sparra's Nest, in Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. All seed is hand candled, cleaned and packed to the stringent requirements of AQIS the Australian Quarantine & Inspection Service.
All seed is stored frozen until purchased. The seed is then unfrozen slowly before packaging & shipment to the buyer, to assure the best quality possible upon arrival. The seed can be sown upon arrival or alternatively refrozen again until required.
I have attempted to supply photos of all of the parents for your reference and is especially useful in the case of hybrid crosses. Liliums are self sterile, and therefore predicting the exact appearance of the offspring for any hybrid lilium crosses is not unlike predicting the appearance and personality of an unborn human child. One can only suggest, using experience, what the liliums from any seed lot will appear like when they flower. This uncertainty makes growing liliums from seed an extremely rewarding experience!
Seed provides the grower with a range of types and colours generally not available commercially. Unlike purchasing bulbs, growing liliums from seed assures that the seedlings will be disease and virus free. Liliums are easy to grow from seed - asiatics and trumpets normally bloom the second year from seed if well cared for. Other types require a little longer time to bloom, but are not difficult to grow from seed if our growing instructions are followed.
Please note that all seed listed on Sparra’s nest is from the excess left over from my own personal hybridizing efforts. The seed is therefore from an excellent gene pool, and is of the finest quality.
